Dennis Corkery's Earthquake Waiting Blues

The Detroit Free Press, April 21, 1906
The 1906 San Francisco earthquake and subsequent fire caused widespread damage far beyond the city's limits as thousands of tourists were trapped in the near destruction of the entire city as well. While the city's dead was estimated at nearly 3,000, Michigan's missing numbered close to a hundred residents, including the family of Eloise worker Dennis Corkery. Unaccounted for were his wife, daughter Hanna, son Jeremiah and possibly another daughter, though no name was provided in the paper. Census and death records from 1910 and beyond seem to indicate that all arrived safely back in Detroit.
