They Couldn't Live Without Him

The Owosso Argus-Press, June 16, 1952
Or so surmised Steve Machek, Jr. before he sledgehammered his two children to death and killed his wife and himself with blasts from a shotgun.

What started out as a brooding over future treatment for a childhood head wound turned into a deadly assault that his father discovered when he stopped by to take his son to the hospital. Instead, Sadie Machek, Machek, Jr.'s wife and the only surviving member of the family, was rushed to WCGH where she later expired.

Machek was a farmer and chair maker who had apparently acted strangely since a childhood accident impaired his mental faculties. Not enough to attract a wife and start a family but sufficiently enough to destroy them.
