The Death of a Former Slave

Detroit Free Press, June 29, 1897
Catherine Murray, like the previously mentioned James Taylor, was a former slave that ended up at old Eloise. Her tenure at the institution was approximately 3 years and culminated with death at the estimated age of 103. Which puts her in rare company since she was a centenarian of African descent that was emancipated from bondage. Not to mention that she was likely one of the few to arrive at the County House at the ripe age of 100.
