This contract (also for sale on Etsy) between physician Alexander Collar and the Wayne County Poor House was for one year of service starting the first Wednesday in May of 1865. The visits would occur on alternating days 3 times per week. His duties included checkups and surgery with all medicines and instruments paid for by the good doctor. His salary was $400 which was paid in quarterly installments. In today's terms that would be roughly $6,000. Which seems like a bargain except that medicine in 1866 was a far cry from today's practices.
