Ex-Slave Sent Back to Dixie For Burial

Detroit Free Press, October 16, 1957
On the bottom of the page concerning the "trick haircuts" story was this small mention of a former slave named Hattie Rous who passed away at WCGH in October of 1957 at the age of 104.

Born on Halloween in South Carolina in 1852 she would have likely been indentured into her teenage years. She apparently remained in South Carolina until she was 90 before moving to Philadelphia for two years and then to Detroit to live with some of the many children she adopted during her lifetime.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find anything else about her but I'll continue searching.
