Another Casualty of the Sauce

Detroit Free Press, November 15, 1910
John Kerwin had a pass to enter the poorhouse at Eloise on November 3, 1910 but was waylaid en route by his habit for drink. As in whiskey. The Devil's water. And to the after world he went carrying the long sorrow of the alcoholic heart.

Worse yet was that Miss Gertrude Proctor, a teacher at the Miller School in Dearborn, found him in a shed when she went to retrieve some wood. A neighbor was summoned to rouse Kerwin but no human prodding could wake him from the eternal slumber. All post mortems and precautionary tales ended with the same rueful result. So mote it be.
